Bucks Bobbins by Jean

Such a delightful name -
One lace fair, a lady approached my table, rubbed her finger along the length of a bucks bobbin and said that it had been years since she had seen really nicely made 'bobtails'. It was the first time I'd heard the expression in terms of bobbins, despite the fact that I had been making laminated bucks bobbins for about 10 years. It was a delight to enjoy her company, listening to her talking about her childhood when her father used to be employed in the making of bucks bobtail bobbins for the professional lacemakers. I never did get her name, or that of her father, and I have never seen her again. Pity.
